Google Adds Facial Recognition To Image Search

A few days ago a saw a post on the Google operation system blog about new image search functionality that allows facial searching. Simply add &imgtype=face to the end of a image search query and hit enter it Google matches faces. Here's a few screen shots of some sample I performed.

This amazing technology only makes me more interested in Never Vision. Here's an except for a Google blog post in Aug 2006:


This technology will be used by Google to improve Picasa, by detecting and recognizing obects and persons in the picture. But the biggest challenge would be to integrate this into their image search engine and to create a mobile version for local search that will allow you to upload pictures and get information about the place / objects in the picture.

Google will soon know how to identify objects, or places, and people. It's scary and exciting at the same time. Try it out and see if you can find some interesting faces.
